    I have a 1996 oldsmobile ciera V6 with 45K miles and I have a left front caliper that will not release all the time. I replaced the caliper twice and finally noticed that it is not frozen, but instead the hydraulic back pressure is not relieved. I do not have an ABS light light on. Has anyone had the same issue? Is it in the ANTI lock servo mechanism nexty to the master cyclinder? Can it be serviced/rebuilt or it it a simple cleaning needed? Any information would be appreciated. thanks for your time

    Hello, I'm attempting to check the status of the fuel pump in my 1988 IROC Z. The Haynes book I am using to give me instruction has instructed me to check the fuel pump for power. My question is, how do I energize the fuel pump, apply battery voltage to terminal G of the Assembly Line Diagnostic Link (ALDL).

    I have a 2003 Ford Sport Trac that is sputtering when I turn it on. I have to keep gas on it when slowing or it will stall and floor it to get up a hill. I have had the O2 sensors, coils, spark plugs and injectors all checked and everything is fine. It is showing a misfire to 3 and 6 when hooked up to computer but can't seem to figure out why it is misfiring. Just looking for a direction to look next without having to hit the dealership.

    How do I get to the starter on an 91 Oldsmobile Toronado Trofeo. I see the starter but there is a large wide crossbar on the bottom preventing access. It's not accessible from the top either. Labor quotes are 1.5 hours to replace the starter so does that crossbar come off?

    i recently put a new fuel pump in my 1997 GMC Sierra and i recently put a new fuel pump in it. i went to start it and my engine wouldnt go. My engine is only firing sparks to cylinder 1,6,4and3. SOMETIMES. I've changed my cap and rotar and my ignition control module. my coil is shooting out sparks just fine. my coil wire is new too. why wont it fire to all cyllinders?

    i have a 90 dodge ram b 250 fullsize van v6 3.9l. (no start!) just had alot of work done to it engine wise new map sensor,plugs and wires,new distrbutor cap and rotor button new fuel injector and fuel filter i pulled it in about 4 days ago to change rear breaks and drum anyways went to start it all i can is for the engine to crank but no start and if i advance the timing by turning the distrbutor a couple degress clockwise when i try to start it the samething but when i stop and the key fulls back to the run postion the engine will spite and spouter litely for a couple seconds then backfires thro the throttlebody its getting spark and fuel conprrestion seems good therefor i thought it was the timing so i pulled the #1 plug set at TDC got under it check my marks good then i check the rotor button point2 #1 could it maybe the crankshaft postioning sensor orn what can you or anyone help me before i put bullet in it thank you for atleast letting me bi*ch

    I have a ford f150 with v6 4.2 , can't get it to start. replaced computer, camshaft sensor,crankcase sensor. checked voltage out of the computer to camshaft sensor it reads 11vdc, but will pulse when turning engine.     I have a 2001 Olds Alero with about 166,000 miles and received good service out of my car until lately. The engine idles abnormally fast, about 1500 rpm's (this is a 2.4 four cyclinder with a five speed std.). I have just recently had the injectors cleaned and a new tps switch changed.     Ok, I got the correct wiring harness for the speaker wires. However, I have everything wired up right and I get no sound. The deck has power, and seems to be getting reception (the stereo light flashes as I adjust the tuning), but no sound whatsoever. I've heard something about needing to bypass an amp, but I'm not sure if there is an amp at all, or how I would go about bypassing it if there is. I don't see an amp anywhere, but I've heard that there are sometimes 'amps' built into the speaker enclosures in the doors and such, in high end cars. Any ideas?

    I have a 1991 Lincoln Continental, and I'm trying to install a new car stereo. I bought a wiring adapter, and I think I've got the one harness with the accesory, ignition, etc all figured out. However, the speaker harness that came in the same package doesn't have a corresponding plug in the dash. There's a smaller square-ish plug in the dash which has the right number of leads in it to be a speaker harness, but the one that came with the kit is a similar shape to the non-speaker harness. Any ideas? The kit said it's good for Ford/Lincoln/Mercury from like '86-'04, so an '01 should be good to go, right? Am I missing something, or am I just an idiot? lol

    I have a 1983 Toyota Camry that has developed an oil leak under the dash and the oil leaks on my shoes while driving. I have been advised it may be from the coil, and/or from the speedometer cable which is lubricated by transmission oil. It primarily does it, I think, while the heater is on, but I am not certain. Please, someone, help!

    I just bought my daughter a used 1999 Mercury Sable. She reports that the car feels sluggish, kind of gains and loses power when on an uphill at about 50+ mph. Feels like the transmission may be slipping in and out of gear. Yesterday the check engine light went on while this was happening. Does anybody know if this may be the recall problem with regards to the transmission-oil cooler line that was factory installed, which contacts ABS module bracket and can wear over time and develop a leak? Or is this probably strictly an old transmission that needs to be replaced? The car has about 145,000 miles on it.

    My 1991 Buick Park Avenue 3.8L DOHC started skipping and cut off while going 35mph. When checking the plug wires we noticed they had come apart(the medal insert came out of the boot)so we replaced the wires. First we had it the wires crossed called autozone and they told us to start at the back side of the firewall and firing order was 1-6-5-4-3-2 after putting the wires ln beginning at the back side the car would not even start so my husband remembered how the wires were arranged and releazied we had to start at the front side of the motor(3 plugs on the front of the motor and 3 near the firewall on the back side of the motor).The car now starts but is still skipping REALLY BAD and there is also a REAL BAD ODOR and white smoke coming out of the muffler. Is it possible that now the problem is a stopped up catalytic converter or what is it someone PLEASE help.

    Hey, everyone. I have a '90 Pontiac Grand AM equipped with a 2.5L TBI l4 (Vin "U") engine, and I was wondering, even though it doesn't seem to come factory-equipped with a fuel pressure regulator, is it possible to add one? It idles a bit roughly and unevenly, and the lights and such pulsate (like it's not getting consistent power because the idle isn't smooth? Or maybe it's not idling smoothly because of the inconsistent power...). It's fine out on the highway, and except for the uneven idle, the car works great, generally getting 26-31MPG with 240k+ miles on it. I just want to know if I can get even more out of it by smoothing the fuel flow. One last thing, can I use those "performance-boosting modules" found on eBay and various other places on the 'net with this engine? I know it's not a "true" fuel-injection system.

    I've got a problem with 4-wheel Anti Lock Brakes. It has a wheel speed sensor on each front wheel and uses the vehicle speed sensor to detect rear wheel lock-up. What happens is as the speed reaches say 5 mph, they start to function even though no wheel lockup is imminent. Which means the truck doesn't want to stop at stop signs. Whatever fault is present is not being detected by the system. If it were the system would be disabled and the abs lite would come on. Disconnecting each front wheel sensor causes a fault, the speedometer works fine.

    okay, my '94 chevy blazer just stopped running on me. I noticed my battery light came on when I started it up but drove down to the gas station. pumped my gas, got back in and it wouldn't even turn over. got someone to jump me off and drove down to the local auto zone. they checked my battery and said it was fine it was probably my alt. so I took that to a starter and alt. shop and had it rebuilt. got it back in and still nothing! same senario. so is this my starter? I've also had a miss in it. it doesn't want to idle. at times when I go to stop it would die on me and a friend said he thought it was my O2 sensor, but I don't really know anyone who knows what they are talking about. PLEASE SOMEONE HELP!!! I'm just a simple girl that was taught the basics of changing the oil and checkin spark plugs but that's as far as I've gotten. I would appreciate any help that could be offered. I've been on here before regarding e brake problems I was having and got great results in the help offered there. Thanks for your time.

    I have a 2005 Chevy Equinox. On occasion there will be a wax melting smell and smoke puffs that come from the stearing colum. I have taken it in twice to the shop, the first time they replaced the SIR coil and that didn't solve the problem the second time (another shop) they didn't find anything out of the ordinary. It seems to happen shortly after I wash my car or after a storm. One service tech also said that it could be the oil they put on the contacts burning off. Any insight would be appreciated.

    I just purchased a 1995 chevy Lumina APV, it was running very poor, I have since replaced, spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor, fuel and air filters, it runs better but misses at idle, and the converter gets red hot after running for a while.     I have two problems with my 89 Ford Aerostar Cargo Van, 3.0 engine. First the AC Compressor cuts on and off and will not cool because the Compressor will not stay on. I know that it is an electrical problem but I don't know where to start. Also there is no air coming out of my vents inside the cab. You can here the air blowing but nothing comes out of the vents either on AC or Heat. On occassion with hesitation or it will continue to turn with no spark to start at all. Also.. idle is inconsistent when a/c compressor is engaged, it will cause vehicle to stall. Assumed it was the voltage reg, possibly the alternator. According to manual they are good. Cleaned IAC valve and it seems to have fixed the problem. Whatever tech tips and information that can be provided would be greatly appreciated if problems continue to occur to eliminate paying the huge fees associated with huge dealership markup for parts and labor.

    Hey, Where might I locate the radiator fan relay for my 89' Chevy Corsica? I have replaced the fan motor and sensor, the fan is stubborn and still won't get the message! Chill Out, lol. I noticed antifreeze flowing freely through the thermostat immediately upon starting the car, isn't the thermostat suppose to close completely and remain closed, until the antifreeze is heated at operating temperature? How long should it take for the sensor to accurately read the fluid temp and have the fan kick on once the coolant has reached its optimal degrees, then be transferred back to the radiator, cycled through and cooled by the fan? If I can't fix this problem the way it was intended to be fixed, what would I have to do to install a manual switch to the fan?     Hi, I have a 1996 S10 v6 4.3 with a automatic overdrive transmission 4L60E. My engine went bad and I purchsed a 2000 4.3 engine with the transmisson attached. I notice that the new transmission is a 1/2 inch longer then the old transmission, and the t-convert is also bigger then the one that came out of my 1996 S10. The t-convert on my 1996 is smaller and the bolt holds do not line up to the new engines fly wheel. So could I use the same transmission that came with the new engine. Will this work???     We need to install Daytime Running Lights (DRL's) in a 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee Loredo. This vehicle was built in California but now we're importing it to Canada and the law says we need DRL's.     I have a 1984 Chevrolet S-10 Blazer with a 2.8 Ltr. Recently it has had problems with cold startups, you actually have to feather if until its warm. Second problem which is obviously related is when your driving as soon as your in overdrive, about 55 mph, it will start popping out of the carb,nearing a hill it will pop out of the carb, but if you downshift to 3rd it will come out of it and accelerate fine again. I had some concern about the linkages on the carb, and the age of the carb, so I replaced if with a holley remanufactured carb, still had the prob, so I changed plug wires , cap, rotor, maybe thinking I had bought junk wires. Still had problem so I shot brake clean along intake manifold, Idle smoothed out when i did this, indicating that the gasket was sucked in, so I replaced the Intake Gasket, performed test again, no change in idle, leak was fixed,and it ran great untill 55 mph, then pop, pop. So now Im pissed! Thought ignition again so I replaced Ignition Coil. I know its not a valve cause i performed a comp. test, and all cylinders are equal, fireing order is right on, timing is right on, advance works, PLEASE HELP

    I recently had several repairs performed to my 1994 honda accord ex beginning with replacing the timing belt, spark plugs oil change with filter,valve cover gasket replaced water pump replaced, oil pump seal crank shaft seal and cam shaft seal replaced, . Balancer shaft belt and alternater belt. The power steering pump and belt were also replaced, All this for the grand total of $681.00, he even saved the old parts to show me what was wrong with each part, Ithought this was a very good price, am I correct in this assumption?

    Have a 2001 SS Monte Carlo...first the trac off and anti-lock break light keeps coming on now sometimes the car just won't start and the security light comes on. This has happened a few times and it will start and it is okay for a couple of weeks and it will not start again, go out the next day and it may start. I figure it is a computer issue....any ideas???     I have an 88 Cadilac Deville which within the last week i had the front psgr side axle replaced. For a couple of days, i noticed a few slight electrical surges brighten very briefly my instrument console lights. Then the night before last after fueling it was hard to start. I was able to start that evening after disconnect/reconnect of same battery. The next morning i was able to get the another hard start the same way to go to work about 25 miles. That eve it was another hard start, so figured with recent cold weather perhaps the battery failed, and was informed the battery needed replacing. When replaced, starting had new failures, such as the motor fan would start running and console display did not show and slight attempt to start. When turned to auxillary positon clock/console would display as normal. Has anyone experienced this or know why this would occur after a couple hard starts and replacing the battery? Please suggest any fuses to check/replace, could it be the starter or altenator? Should i consult the mechanic which replaced the axle?

    I have a 1996 GMC 6.5 diesel 4X4 half ton pickup. It starts good when cold but won't start when hot. If left for an hour or so it will again start. Changed fuel pump, filter, ignition sensor. Any suggestions?

    I need help in removing and replacing a gasket in my 1977 ford van converted to an ambulance the gasket is for the oil pan.     About a month ago my car would'nt start without pushing the gas, and would idle really low and die at stoplights. I took it to be fixed and they changed the fuel filter, the oil and fixed the temperature gage (which before was always at 0). It worked fine after that, almost perfect until now. It starts right up, but idles really rough and shakes. When i push the gas it gets better but still runs really rough. The check engine light flashes and sometimes constantly is on. What could it be??????

    Bought a 1984 Chevy Caprice Classic, there is a problem with the car. It has a small "pop" like back fire, uses excessive gas, and idles really high. I was thinking the timing chain..or the rotor.

    I have a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee that dies while driving down the road and it also dies while idleing. Does not start right away. It always starts after it's been sitting for at least 2 hours.     I am told i need my camshaft position sensor replaced on my 93 ford ranger before it can pass smog. The only problem is I am also being told the part alone costs around $500, is this a correct estimate for the part or am I being ripped off? The ranger is a 4.0 automatic.

    I have a 1998 GMC Z71 4X4. The service engine light came on, I had it checked and the code said the gas cap leaked. I bought a new one. I got same service engine light the next day. It was suggested I may have gotten bad gas. I ran cleaner and a tank of gas throught the truck and it still came on again. I took it to another tech and he checked it and the code still shows a leak of some kind. He ran a smoke test and cleaned the massive air flow filter. I am driving it about 60 miles tonight and will see if it comes on again. I believe it will. Any suggestions?

    I have a 1999 Chevy Suburban which burns a fuse everytime it is put in reverse. This affects the backup lights and the turn signals (and emergency flashers). If I start the vehicle in neutral and then put a good fuse in the signal lights and flashers work fine but as soon as the gear shift passes through reverse the fuse burns. I changed the backup lights even though the previous backup lights looked fine. The vehicle has a trailer package with an electric brake hookup. The problem started out of the blue on a trip with no trailer. Any ideas?

    On my 1992 Dodge Caravan LE 3.3ltr. The check engine light is on. The check gauges light came on too then the voltage indicator shut down. Finally broke down after a week. The battery is good. Is it the altinator and or the voltage regulator?

    Have a 88 ford ranger 2.3L. engine that won`t start.I can unplug the inertia swith that keeps the pumps from running and after the fuel pressure gets down below 10 lbs. it will start and run normally untill the fuel rail is empty [aprox. 2 minutes or so. Have replaced low and high pressure fuel pumps,fuel filter.Code reader shows no problems.Have`nt tried the computer yet.Need help!!!

    I HAVE A 1993 FORD RANGER 2.3L ENGINE W/ MANUAL TRANS. 1ST QUESTION IS WHY IS IT FIRING AT 22 DEGREES INSTEAD OF THE SPECS OF 10 DEGREES ACCORDING TO CHILTON? IT ALSO FLUCTUATES 3-4 DEGREES AT IDLE. IS IT BECAUSE THE TIMING BELT IS STRECTED OR WHAT? 2ND QUESTION: THE EVR SOLENOID IS BAD. I CHECKED THE CONNECTOR VOLTAGE WITH THE KEY ON AND GET 12 VOLTS. WHEN I CHECK AGAIN AT IDLE, IT READS BETWEEN APPROX 14.7-19.6 VOLTS FLUCTUATING BACK AND FORTH. IS THIS NORMAL FOR THE EVR SOLENOID? 3RD QUESTION: WHEN I PUT MY HAND OVER THE INTAKE PORT AT IDLE, IT DOES NOT DIE, NOR DROP IN RPM. IS THIS NORMAL OR DO I HAVE OTHER PROBLEMS? 4TH QUESTION: UNDER THE HOOD FUSEBOX I FOUND A 15AMP MINI-FUSE THAT WAS BLOWN. IT IS LOCATED IN #17 SPACE BUT I DON'T KNOW WHAT IT GOES TO. THE LID DOES NOT SAY OTHER THAN TO LOOK IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL THAT I DO NOT HAVE. WHAT DOES IT GO TO? THANK YOU FOR ANY RESPONSES!!!!!!!
